Classic Boston baked beans
This lovely winter warmer is fantastic served baked potatoes.
1 tbsp of vegetable oil
1 onion chopped
2 sticked of celery finely chopped
2 cloves garlic finely chopped
1 pack of smoked bacon lardons
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
1 beef stock cube
1/2 pint of water
2 tbsp black treacle
1 tsp dijon mustard
salt and pepper to taste
1 tin of haricot beans
1 tin of hotdogs-sliced
In a large saucepan heat the oil and add the onion, celery and garlic. Cook until soft.
Now turn up the heat and fry the bacon with the onion mix until they are brown. Add the chopped tomatoes, beef stock, water, treacle, mustard and salt and pepper.
Leave this to simmer for 20 minutes.
Now add the beans and the hot dogs, heat these through for another 10 minutes.
Serve with hot, buttery baked potatoes.
